Open University of Hong Kong - OUHKThe Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong - OLI
Founded in 1989, the Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong (OLI) became the first university in Hong Kong to offer open and distance education. The campus of the Institute was relocated in April 1997 to its present and permanent location in Ho Man Tim. At that time the name of the University was changed to the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) to reflect accomplishments in academic standing, achievements, and contributions to scholarly activity and research. The University is dedicated to providing high quality and flexible educational opportunities to accommodate the demands imposed upon the college’s academic community. Today there are more than one hundred degree programs available at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The University has enjoyed enormous success in using a flexible credit hour system. Enrolled students earn credits hours for each course which accrue until the requirements of the relevant program of study are satisfied. Students enjoy the freedom to choose when and when they study and are provided with carefully structured and organized instructional materials for each course. Additionally, matriculating students may meet with experienced tutors for more personalized instruction and feedback. The University’s state of the art facilities include a library, computer laboratory, audio-visual center, language laboratory, and lecture theater. Also available are laboratories for scientific research and training, smaller study rooms for tutorial sessions, and a center tailored to accommodate students with disabilities. All students of the University enjoy easy access to the equivalent of over 500,000 volumes through the online Electronic Library. The University’s modern facilities and the flexibility of the distance education program provide adult students with an outstanding environment for learning and scholarship. |
